The design lid has a slightly rough surface. At the same time, it does not affect the acoustic properties of the ukulele to any significant extent.
The AUC-33 is a designer ukulele, but is built like "regular" Flight ukuleles, so you can expect a good neck, stable tuning screws and generally good build quality.
